Body Image
Emma Whyte K00138971 luckybells.blogspot.com
My concept is about body image and identity. What I am looking at
is how women perceive themselves, how they are always trying to change
themselves, trying to improve their self-image for the hopes of becoming happy.
I am looking at how in the public eye, the media, portrays being overweight as
undesirable and, being an unhealthy skinny is beauty and how women 'should
look'. Their self – esteems are automatically lowered to a point of hating what
they see in the mirror. Obviously women will try to change to 'improve'
themselves to try and become someone they are not, like these 'super models'.
Unfortunately they are going to extreme, lengths to become someone they are
not, to be happy. I am looking into different ways women try to change their
looks like plastic surgery, Botox, dieting, extreme make up, etc. I will be
exploring different print processes to try and get the message of my project
across. I will be doing multiple wood blocks, silkscreen and the different
processes involved in that such as mono silkscreen. I will also be doing
etching and some intaglio. I have plans to use Photoshop and possibly film as
more medias. I'll be doing drawings, paintings and will also be taking plaster
cast of different body parts to try and create, 'The Perfect Body'.
